North Group
A North Group operating brief, for store managers

The weekly recap,
in ten minutes

Every week a store manager writes the same recap upward, on a Sunday night, mostly from memory. This is the brief that hands that job to whichever AI assistant you already have. Copy it, paste it into a new conversation, and give it this week's numbers. It asks what your figures actually mean before it writes a line, and it asks what your assistant is allowed to see before that.

Head office quotes a sales figure back at you in the district meeting and it is not the number on your till report. Nobody has ever explained the gap. It is a return from a sale in July, taken off the day somebody processed it, landing on a week you traded well.
What it usually says

“Sales were down week over week”

Nobody can act on this
What comes out

We took nine percent less than last week and all of it is one return from a sale in July, so the trading week was flat

Somebody can act on this
What changed

The recap has always been written from memory on a Sunday, because the numbers live in a till system, a labour report and a head office email that use the same words for different things, and the only person who could reconcile them was the manager who had been there long enough to know which figure head office actually meant. An assistant reads those numbers directly, asks what they mean before it writes anything, and puts the reason next to the number. The recap becomes ten minutes, and the manager stops finding out in the district meeting that they were comparing the wrong two weeks.

What a Sunday looks like once it is set up
Sun 17:40
Store closed, till report open, and the recap still to write
Sun 17:45
It asks what your assistant can see, and whether it is allowed your numbers
Sun 17:50
What a sale counts as here is settled once, returns included
Sun 18:05
Three lines on what moved, each with a number and a reason inside it
Mon 08:30
Your area manager asks about the one thing you already answered

If you have not used Claude before

It is an ordinary chat window, whichever assistant you use. You paste the brief, send it, and type or attach this week's numbers when it asks. Nothing gets installed and nothing connects to your till.

What it does not do. It works from what you give it by hand each week. It does not reach into your till system, and it will not know about the delivery that never turned up unless you tell it.

Written for
Store managers, and the area managers who read what they send up
What you need
Whatever AI assistant you already have, and this week's numbers
Time to first run
About half an hour, on this week
What is in it
A store manager pastes the brief into the assistant their company gave them and types in the week's takings. Before a single line of the recap is written, the run asks whether those numbers are allowed in that tool, reports that the comparison week last year included a bank holiday this one does not, and points out that the drop against last week is carried entirely by one return processed on Tuesday against a sale from months earlier.
You send the recap on Sunday knowing which line your area manager will ask about, and you already have the answer.
