North Group
A North Group operating brief, for finance teams

The board deck
writes itself

Every month somebody rebuilds the same board deck by hand, out of a close export, a budget file and last month's deck that disagree. This is the brief that hands that job to Claude. Copy it, paste it into a new Claude conversation, and attach the files you already pull. It asks what your numbers mean before it drafts a single page.

The deck tells the board EBITDA is ahead of plan. The covenant certificate for the bank, prepared the same week from the same close, says it is behind. Both are right: the deck's line carries the addbacks and the bank's does not, and nobody in the room knows there are two numbers.
What changed

The numbers live in the accounting system, the budget spreadsheet, the covenant model and last month's deck, and the only thing able to reconcile them was somebody who knew which EBITDA carried the addbacks, which budget column the board was tracking, and which pages had been copied forward since spring. Claude reads those files directly, asks what your lines mean before it combines anything, and drafts every page headline first. The rebuild becomes a paste, and the person who knew what the lines meant writes it down once instead of doing it every month.

What deck week looks like once it is set up
Tue 08:00
The close export, the budget file and last month's deck land in one folder
Tue 08:05
Every file read, every line mapped to the name you use, EBITDA settled once
Tue 08:20
What moved written first, the line that cannot explain itself on top
Tue 09:30
Every page a headline somebody can challenge, with its number and its source
Thu 16:00
The deck goes out two days before the meeting instead of the night before

One page, written to be pasted straight into Claude. No course, no call booking, no drip sequence.
The brief opens right here. No drip sequence, and no call unless you ask.
If you have not used Claude before

It is an ordinary Claude conversation. You paste the brief, send it, and drag your export files into the same window when it asks. Nothing gets installed and nothing connects to your systems.

What it does not do. It runs on exports you attach by hand, each month, and it drafts pages for the template your board already knows. Making the files arrive on their own, or writing straight into your reporting pack, is a build rather than a brief.

Written for
CFOs, controllers and whoever actually assembles the monthly board deck
What you need
A Claude account and the exports you already pull
Time to first run
About an hour, on last month's deck
What is in it
A controller attaches the close export, the budget file and last month's deck. Before a single page is drafted, the run reports that the deck's EBITDA line carries addbacks the covenant calculation does not, that the variance table compares against the original plan while the commentary references the spring reforecast, and that two pages of last month's deck were carried forward with the prior month's numbers still in them.
By the time the deck goes out, every page is a sentence somebody can challenge, and you already know the answer.
